Most people think of comfort as a positive thing. You want comfort in many areas of your life, but in fact, too much comfort isn’t what anyone needs.

Your comfort zone is what you’re comfortable doing every day (big shock, right?). You’re comfortable waking up at the same time every morning, having the same cup of coffee, and doing the same thing you do daily.
Have you noticed how hard it is to introduce something new and challenging into your life?
For instance, say you want to get up every morning at 5 am to take a run. This will prove to be hard for two reasons. For starters, you’re not used to waking up early, and you’re not used to running.
Both are hard to do and take a great deal of discipline to combine and fit into your routine. You’ll be tired, making it hard to gain motivation. Then when you make it outside to run, you’ll experience physical discomfort.
Your body and mind will push back against this new practice you’re trying to make commonplace. Overall, your comfort zone manifests itself in several ways—procrastination, self-doubt, as well as physical and mental discomfort.
Why You Want to Push Through Your Comfort Zone
When you know how to challenge yourself and your comfort zone, you can live any life you want. This is where personal success and happiness come into play.
In doing this, you’ll not only find success in your personal endeavors, but you’ll boost your self-esteem, motivation, and overall well-being. One of the most important things to understand when it comes to comfort zones is that it’s all mental.
You have to understand you’re capable of anything you genuinely want to achieve, but you have to want it enough to pursue it with the right mindset. If you find yourself having a hard time getting started, think about the person you want to be and the things you want to achieve.
When you’ve established these ideas and values, you can move forward with the steps needed to execute them. Value-based decisions are a great way to push through your comfort zone because you’ll be fueled by the right kind of passion.
Once you see you’re doing all the things you set out to do, you’ll beam with pride and have a newfound sense of accomplishment and motivation.

A Few Ways You Can Expand Your Comfort Zone

Breaking out of your comfort zone is easier said than done, so here are a few tips you can use to get the ball rolling.
Start by switching up your routine when possible. If you do the same things every day—same route to work, same stuff for lunch, etc.—you can loosen the lines of the comfort zone by changing up your daily routine.
It can be as simple as changing your wake up routine—reading instead of scrolling through social media and emails. Or, you could go to the other side of town and visit a restaurant or museum with friends you don’t see often.
Secondly, think about what you want to do but never have because it’s outside your comfort zone. It’s time to just do it and keep doing it until it’s not uncomfortable anymore.
You’ll see this produces a high-level of personal satisfaction and inspires you to keep moving outside your comfort zone. When you take the risk of stepping outside of the comfort zone, you’re able to grow in many ways.
The most important thing to remember is that comfort zones are purely mental. If you don’t challenge this mental block, you’ll find yourself not wanting to put forth the effort to try anything new.
The last thing you want is to be stuck in an endless cycle of self-limiting monotony. Your personal growth depends on you challenging yourself in more than one way.

Life is hard sometimes. You’re faced with several challenges across the span of your life. How you address challenges makes all the difference because it helps mold you as a person.
