Orange County Airport is getting a new airline

On September 1, 2020 at around 9:10 AM PDT, SNA will announce a new airline coming to the airport.

These airlines currently serve Orange County Airport:

  • American Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • United Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Frontier Airlines
  • JetSuiteX
  • WestJet (suspended)

Air Canada intended to launch Vancouver to Orange County in June 2020, but that didn’t go through. I’m unsure if they’re still planning this flight next year.

Some notable U.S. airlines that are not serving SNA:

  • JetBlue
  • Spirit Airlines
  • Allegiant Air
  • Sun Country

Or, could we see Orange County regain a connection to Mexico? Alaska Airlines previously served SNA to Mexico up until 2019 and Southwest Airlines previously flew SNA to Mexico City. Interjet briefly served SNA between 2012 and 2014.

Demand between the U.S. and Mexico appears to be doing well during COVID-19, so while it’s less likely, we could see a new international airline at Orange County:

  • VivaAerobus is possible as they’re adding some routes during COVID, such as Monterrey to Dallas/Fort Worth.
  • Volaris is a possibility since they’ve been expanding greatly, including 5 new routes between Mexico and the United States

Who do you think this airline is? Which route(s) could they launch?

First, nice work as usual @Ishrion 👏

@Thunderbolt 👀

Based on hours of research of looking at trends and data, my educated guess would be a long haul service to and from Pyongyang with Air Koryo. My guess would be that this service would be operated by the Illyushion Il-62M, as it is the only aircraft in their fleet that could fly this range. However, it would need to be at a reduced to weight to safely make this flight.

I am of course kidding but amazing AvNews as usual.

Honestly if I had to take a guess, I’d go with Volaris, seems like they would fly into an airport like this
